Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia)
New Zealand
20 cm (7.8")
Before
This Chinese Elm started life as a cutting from a larger tree. This was done in August 2012. It was more a case of getting the cutting in the soil and hope for the best, than a deliberate action to do something special with it. I am using this now as it will be a challenge to go from where it is now until it resembles anything like a Bonsai. The roots are plentiful and the foliage growth is coming along nicely. I might slant this little tree severely (just short of a semi-cascade) and build the branches and foliage from there.
