Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii)
New Zealand
25 cm (9.8")
Before
This 25 cm high Douglas Fir was collected about a year ago from an area known as the Napier-Taupo Road here in New Zealand. It was planted in the plastic pot on the photos and left as is. It is now time to do something with it. It has started to back-bud and is growing nicely. I have never worked with Douglas Fir before and see this as a project to learn from. There is some nice deadwood that can be enhanced, one of the branches will be lifted to become a leader and the rest will be styled with an informal upright style in mind.
