Entry #13
Gumbolimbo (Bursera heteresthes)
Mexico
160 cm (62.9") high and 110 cm (43.3") wide
Before
Bursera heteresthes (copal)
Is an interesting Mexican species that grows in the state of Colima, some years ago a friend send me this tree which I planted in the ground and forgot about it for some time, Now is ready to start doing some work on it. It will become an interesting informal upright with a thick trunk. The leaves should reduce significantly from 6-7 cm to less than 1, the tree needs ramification and a change in angle at this point. This species however it is very tolerant to root proning, those making the chang into a pot quite easy.
One Quarter Progression
Bursera heteresthes this has been a great tree to work so far, after cutting the large branches several new branchs grew. Know after a few months its time to recollect the tree from the yard and begin to work the root system and select branches, here we can appreciate the new growth after 25% of the work (mostly by the tree after cutting the main branches figure1) and then some branch selection and pruning figure 2.
Half Way Progression
At 50% of the work we can know begin to see the direction of the tree. The main problem so far is the base that needs to change, I will probable add some roots to the left part of the tree
Three Quarter Progression
Bursera heteresthes (copal) the threequarter image shows the tree know recovering from the potting and little bending. The tree was place with pot and all in the ground again to recover quicky. Soon it will get warmer and each branch will be wire into position for final picture
