Before
The Japanese maple is native to Japan, Korea, and China. It is a deciduous shrub which can grow to 6-10 meters in height. It is the most commonly used maple species in the art of bonsai as it is easy to grow and hardy at withstanding the winter cold. It is also valued for its compact size, delicate foliage and marvellous colour changes throughout the seasons. As you can tell on these three plants the roots systems on Japanese maples are quite compact. I chose these trees because they were cheap, quite large and healthy looking. They were purchased as larger trees from a nursery but were cut back to a more suitable size. As spring and new growth comes, I will probably cut them back further. I will fertilise heavily throughout spring and the start of summer to get some major growth and adequate foliage. Hopefully, there will be something presentable by the end of the comp.
